Born 21 July 1892 in Ha Tinh province and died 22 November 1984 in Hanoi.

At the age of 33, he graduated from Indochina Fine Arts College, 1st entering class (1925-1940), he is a classmate with Le Pho, Mai Trung Thu, Le Van De. An pioneer in arts who performed the creation of modern silk painting of Vietnam to a special character of village culture. Ha Tinh province is his mother land, his memories imaginations of the village lives that were deeply and they were figured through most the art works.

Dean Tadeur of Indochina Fine Arts College exhibited Nguyen Phan Chanh’s works in Paris in 1931, and almost silk paintings were sold immediately. The appreciated waves from Vietnames and French presses that were increased dramatically.

1938 exhibited a owned collection in Hanoi after a new dean of the Fine Arts Colleges – Mr. Jonchere did not accept his paintings.

1939-1955 continuously lived and created in Hatinh province.

Spent a long time of teaching at Buoi school and Fine Arts Colleges of Vietnam.

1955  returned Hanoi.

The private collectors love Indochina cultural always find a chance of owning his art works, specialized to the silk paintings.

Member of the Executive Committee of the Fine Arts Association, 1st tenure (1957-1983).

He lived and created most painting at a small house beside Fine Art Museum of Vietnam, on Nguyen Thai Hoc street.
